Iran/Kazakhstan: Joint railway network will be established

October 2007.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan will establish joint railway networks.
He told a press conference in presence of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev that the three countries have decided to build a high-capacity road too in addition to railway.

Ahmadinejad said that he held talks with his Kazakh counterpart in a friendly atmosphere.

He said that the two countries have also planned to develop shipping cooperation.

Kazakhstan has two ports of Atyrau and Aktau on the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea.

The Iranian president said that he held talks with President azarbayev on macro plans for cooperation in the field of energy, oil and gas, setting up of joint refinery, transit and swap of oil and gas and joint venture between private sectors of the two countries.

He said that Iran-Kazakh relations are on growing trend since independence of the republic and Iran supports Kazakhstan's independence.

Ahmadinejad said that the two nations stand by each other as historical allies thanks to the common culture and history.

President Nazarbayev said that a cordial atmosphere has been created during today's negotiations in Tehran.

He said that the common views have been listed in the joint communique.

The Kazakh president said that since declaration of independence 15 years ago, Iran-Kazakh relations have been excellent and the agreements signed in Tehran formed a basis for cooperation, Kazinform cites IRNA.
