Ukraine: Donetsk To Build New Railway Station For EURO 2012

December 2007.

Donetsk city council at its session on December 14 passed a program for preparing for the European Football Championship 2012, within frames of which they plan to build a new railway station.

This follows from the program, the text of which Ukrainian News has obtained.

It supposed that
Donetsk would have a new railway station complex at the "Donetsk" station, which incorporates a suburban passenger station, building of the "Donetsk" railway station and high-speed service lines for major Ukrainian cities.

Chief architect of Donetsk Stanislav Vaschynskyi says that the current railway station of
Donetsk will become the suburban one and the new station building will be build near it.

"The station will not be moved to another place. The railways has free territory near the tramway line ring, and the new building can be built there and this station can used as a suburban one," said Vaschynskyi.

According to the program, the new complex will increase throughput capacity of
Donetsk to 20,000 passengers a day from 17,000.

The project cost UAH 3.015 billion.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported,
Ukraine and Poland won a tender arranged by UEFA to co-host EURO 2012.

The Cabinet of Ministers within its Secretariat set up a department for preparing for and holding of the finals of the European Football Championship in
Ukraine to take place in 2012.
