Ukraine: Railways spent USD 130m on infrastructure investments in 2007

UZ, Ukrainian Railways spent USD 130m on infrastructure investments in 2007. The money was mostly spent on modernising 50 railway stations, 200 platforms and 300 other service buildings.

A completely new station was built in the city of Dzankoy.

        The Ukrainain transport ministry plans to establish a netowrk of fast train connections from Kyiv to
Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Lviv.

       The network is to be established by 2012, when the European football championship takes place.

       The trains are to make speed of 200 km per hour.

      The ministry has developed the program of speed traffic introduction on railway during 2008-2015, presently it undergoes arrangement with other ministries and agencies.

      According to the project, the general cost of state program realization is UAH 37.551 billion, including UAH 19.6 bn from the budget and almost UAH 18 billion of credits.

      The travel time is supposed to be reduced from 8-12 hours to 3-5 hours.
