Poland: New Strategy of PKP Cargo

Wojciech Balczun, the new President of the Polish state-owned rail cargo freight operator PKP Cargo, has announced that the company will undergo major restructuring before it will enter the stock exchange in 2010.

Currently, the management of Cargo is preparing a new strategy, which will include, among other things, the cost reduction to improve financial results, and the introduction of salary increases, which will not be, however, as high as trade unions demand they should be. Another important part of PKP Cargo's new strategy will be to change its policy with regards to private rail freight companies. More specifically, PKP Cargo wants to co-operate with its rivals to improve the state of the Polish rail freight sector, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
