Russian Railways Handles Rising Exports of Oil, Coal in 2007

Russian Railways handled 237.7 million tonnes of oil and oil products in 2007 for both domestic and foreign trade, an increase of two per cent over the previous year.

Within this total, cargo for export amounted to 112.3 million tonnes, up 5.2 per cent year on year. Oil product exports rose by 9.5 per cent, while crude oil exports dropped by 11.6 per cent.
The volume of oil products exported by rail grew by 4.5 per cent, with transportation via the cross border points increasing by 5.6 per cent.

In 2007 coal exports by rail rose by 7.6 per cent. Russian Railways delivered 289 million tonnes of coal for the domestic and export markets, including 100 million tonnes of coal for export.

Coal export to the ports increased by 17.9 per cent. Transportation via the cross border points dropped by 1.2 per cent. Rail services for imported coal fell by 9.7 per cent in 2007 compared with 2006, the report added.
