Czech Republic/Albania: Inekon may modernize Albanian railways

April 2008.

Inekon Group, whose main line is export of railway vehicles, may gain an order for modernizing Albania’s railway lines. Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek visited Albania recently and got a promise of a relevant license for the Czech company. Investment within the contract is to reach € 600 million to € 700 million.

Albanian Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi confirmed interest in Czech know-how and experience after the talks of both countries’ premiers. This would be the Czech Republic's biggest involvement in the country in the last 20 years. The investments should go for modernization of the safety system and repairs of railway lines.
