Iran to Produce 60% of Locomotive Parts Domestically

Iran plans to produce 60 percent of its locomotive parts domestically, deputy director of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Railways Company for development affairs announced here on Monday.

“In this year’s budget the Company has considered the production of 60 percent of its required locomotive parts domestically and through cooperating with the private sector,” Ali Akbar Tarikhi explained.

“Before production we will prioritize the parts required to be domestically manufactured based on production potentials, raw material availability, and the country’s rail policies,” he added.

Tarikhi also explained that two locomotive prototypes were to be domestically produced this year (Iranian calendar year starting
March 20, 2008 to March 20, 2009) through investing approximately $10.8 million, MNA reports.
