Turkey: TCDD wants share from Eurasian route

June 2008.

The head of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) said on Thursday that Turkey wanted its share of the freight and passenger volume between Europe and Asia.
Speaking at a meeting of the South-East Europe Railways Group (SERG) in İstanbul, TCDD Director General Suleyman Karaman said Turkey had realized remarkable railway projects in recent years.

"The Marmaray Project, which connects the two continents, the high-speed train service to begin on the Ankara-Istanbul and Ankara-Konya routes, the construction of a new railway between Turkey and Bulgaria, as well as the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway line are some of these projects," Karaman said.

Karaman said railway transportation between Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and China would be conducted through Turkey upon the completion of such projects.
